Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza has several locations throughout San Diego which makes eating gluten-free fun and easy with several delicious choices. Currently, they are showcasing a summer Mediterranean menu with along with their year round classic dishes. The Carlsbad and Del Mar locations both have a full bar but the others have a nicely varied wine and beer selection. This includes a gluten-free Redbridge beer similar to a red lager or American amber ale.
The meu items are clearly marked vegetarian, gluten-free or vegan which makes it very straightforward in ordering for specific needs. For starters, the seasonal item of the organic heirloom tomato and watermelon with feta cheese is flavorful as it is colorful. The organic kale salad with toasted almonds and a pomegranate dressing is another popular and healthy choice.
The pizzas have many preparation options with lots of topping choices. Diners can choose to have their pizza with a regular crust, a gluten-free crust, and a whole wheat crust as well as choosing between regular, non-fat cheese, and vegan cheese.
The summer menu highlights some of the classic pizzas such as the organic arugula with pear which is quite lovely with the bitter leaves and sweetness from the fruit against the saltiness from the prosciutto and the gorgonzola cheese. It also includes the burrata and pesto pizza with a house made tomato sauce which is a nice twist on the classic for those a bit less adventurous. It’s no wonder that Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza received the San Diego Chapter’s award for Best Pizza from the California Restaurant Association.
A full meal is not without a decadent dessert and Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza has a gluten-free messy sundae ready to please any child or will surely bring out the kid in you. The tall glass is loaded with scoops vanilla ice cream covered in a sweet chocolate and caramel sauce and topped off with walnuts and whipped cream.
The chain owned by the Ladeki restaurant group is going to open up a new location in Henderson, Nevada which will be the largest location to date complete with a gaming tavern and a Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza restaurant. While a similar location in San Diego would be envious, you don’t have to be a gambler to enjoy eating gluten-free at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza. The diverse menu and several locations throughout San Diego County makes it easy to stay gluten-free while eating out with the whole family.
